Stylish & Spooky Halloween Wedding Inspiration

If you’re one of the many people who consider Halloween their favourite holiday, you might have considered holding your wedding on All Hallow’s Eve? Even if the idea of a full wedding day dress up isn’t for you, there are plenty of tasteful ways to incorporate the spirit of the festival into your day! The trick with a Halloween wedding is to avoid the clichés – remember your wedding isn’t a children’s party and guests might not enjoy the thought of sitting next to a skeleton and entrées of fake worms. Try to think outside the box and keep the ghoulishness to a minimum. That’s not to say you can’t have fun with a Halloween wedding theme though! After all, it’s a great excuse to get up to some antics!

Have fun with your outfit, add in some black lace on shoes or opt for a black birdcage veil – and go for glittery nails and eye make up to really sparkle! Groomsmen can get in on the fun with some skull and crossbone cufflinks or socks or maybe even try out a vintage looking top hat and cane for a ghostly feel. Sparklers are a must for a Halloween wedding; use them in your ceremony or for a magical outdoor wedding photo with all your guests. Guests can be welcomed to their seat with mini pumpkin name holders, and could even sign a pretty pumpkin guestbook! Use your favourite scary movies as table names and serve up a dessert table with some old Halloween staples like chocolate toffee apples or some ghost-headed cake pops! We’ve put together a gothic wedding moodboard below to help you envision a chic and stylish halloween wedding or even a fun pre-wedding dinner, and if you need even more inspiration, check out these gorgeous gothic halloween wedding ideas.

Today we’re talking winter weddings. And not the – let’s throw a Christmas tree here and a piece ‘o tinsel there type of shindig – we’re talking full on winter chic, shimmery silver and cool ice blue beauty. The cold, romantic hand-in-suitably-attired-hand weather could just be the ultimate time for throwing the wedding bash that changes everything. Look at it this way – people don’t like to leave their houses for any Celsius with a ‘minus’ in it. But throw in a hot cocoa reception, a fleece blanket, a chance to wear to wear faux fur and everyone’s onboard. All it takes is warmer bones, fairy lights, hot toddies, faux fur cover-ups and a theme more memorable than Christmas itself, and you’ve got yourself one heck of a winter celebration. And if all else fails, go ice skating before everybody’s back in the reception room…

10 of the Cutest Ideas for a Christmas Wedding

We just love Christmas so we’re fairly nuts about Christmas weddings! This magical time of year is the perfect time to get wed and brides and grooms are spoilt for choice when it comes to cute and charming details. From toasty drinks receptions to a wealth of sparkly and rustic décor, there is just so much to inspire at this time of year. For those of you tying the knot in 2016 we’ve rounded up some beautiful ideas made for festive celebrations…

1. Give your guests a bit of after-dinner entertainment with some Christmas crackers (check out a DIY version here). Don’t forget to pop in paper crowns so guests can party in festive style in to the wee hours!

2. Stack some candy canes in the shape of a heart at place settings, on your dessert table or by a drink station for a really sweet touch.

3. We love this creative guest book idea! Get your guests to scribble a message to you on a bauble and pop it on the Christmas tree – the great thing about this is you’ll have them to reminisce over as you decorate your tree each year. If you’ve a thing for baubles, they can look gorgeous stacked on a glass stand as a creative and festive centrepiece and you can also pick up bauble place card holders in the weddingsonline shop, favour and place name in one!

4. Christmas time is all about the food – from tins of roses to yule logs, Christmas puddings and gingerbread men, we love all the treats that make an appearance at this time of year. These cutesy tree shaped cookies would go down a treat at your drink’s reception with steaming mugs of tea, coffee and hot chocolate. And if you love creative food styling, Cabot Cheese show you to transform your blocks of cheddar in to one seriously cute Christmas Tree Cheese Board, perfect for nibbling on pre-or post dinner – check it out here!

5. Why not hang a Mr or Mrs stocking from the back of your reception chairs for a fun festive vibe! We also love the idea of using stockings as an alternative guestbook – it’s the perfect spot to pop wishes for the happy couple.

6. More foodie delights! These quirky little gingerbread houses could be a quaint and charming centrepiece idea.

7. We love our hot chocolate and mulled wine for Christmas weddings but if you’re looking for something frosted and tasty, these Gingerbread Martini’s will be devoured! See the recipe here.

8. These cosy tartan hand warmers are a cheap and cheerful favour idea and your guests will love this practical little token. See the tutorial over on Swoon Studio.

9. Forget confetti, get yourself some fake snow for the most magical exit ever!

10. Rosemary has so many creative uses come the festive season – from a garnish for your cosy drinks to adorable mini wreaths. Get crafting these mini place cards by following this easy tutorial over on Spoon Fork Bacon.

Pantone Wedding Colours 2016 – Serenity & Rose Quartz

Well it’s official, the reps at Pantone have spoken and in an unprecedented move have forecast not one but two distinct colours for spring/summer 2016! So, what colours will we be wearing, driving and painting our kitchen in 2016? They are…*drumroll*… Pink and blue! Or to give them their full, Pantone-friendly names; Rose Quartz and Serenity.

Those already well immersed in the world of weddings will be more than familiar with pastel pink shades which have become the go-to colour for those planning a soft, romantic palette. Bridal designers have been sending blush wedding dresses down runways for years now and while we still can’t imagine many Irish brides opting for a candy colour wedding gown, we see it making its way into bridal wear through embellishments and accessories (who could say no to a pastel pink pair of Badgley Mischka shoes, in fairness?). Rose Quartz is ideal for weddings, Pantone’s other choice however – the light blue Serenity – is a little more unusual to see in spring/summer weddings and actually can have a tendency to look cold if not done right. Think fresh, dreamy, and relaxed – mix it with some peach for a beach feel, or pair it with Rose Quartz for a bold and bright palette. The trick is to use light fabrics such as chiffon in bridesmaids’ dresses and go with off white and ivory shades to keep it feeling warm.

An Elegant, Eclectic Wedding Palette for Spring 2016

Today we wanted to share with you a fresh, grown-up and modern palette for your 2016 wedding, which will work no matter what the season! As we mentioned in our guide to this year’s top wedding trends, romantic Rose Quartz and soothing Serenity Blue are the wedding colours of 2016 and while we love our soft pastel shades, they may lack the punch and wow factor some couples are searching for as they choose their perfect wedding colours. With this in mind, we’ve created a more clean and modern colour scheme with the addition of gorgeous grey and glamorous gold!

Metallics are huge in weddings this year, adding a chic and stylish edge to colour schemes. Copper may be the metallic du jour, but we’ll always have a soft spot for sprinkles of sequinned gold! We also love the idea of softening handsome grey suits with beautiful accents of blush pink and serene light blues in boutonnières and accessories – even a bit of dark tweed could work here too! Edison bulbs will be huge this year as couples opt for more creative lighting to create a romantic rustic feel to their reception, and we love the idea of pairing them with pretty fairy lights and adding a golden touch to your tables. Gold can also be injected into the table with the used of gorgeous gold rimmed charger plates or perhaps a sequinned gold runner for banquet style seating. Blush and blue are of course a little easier to integrate into your palette, through flowers, accessories and pretty pastel stationery, the trick this year is to expand your palette with complementary colours and not being afraid of texture too! Check out our palette below to see how you can work this gorgeous scheme into your day.

4 Fabulous Wedding Colour Schemes for A/W 2016/2017

We’ve been hard at work this week checking out the hottest colour combinations for autumn winter 2016/2017, and we think you’re going to love what we’ve come back with! From budget-friendly Italian inspired greenery to an update on formal monochrome (Spoiler alert! It involves glittery gold!), wedding colour schemes for 2016/2017 are chic, sophisticated, fresh and completely fabulous!

Greenery Wedding Theme

One of our favourite palettes this year is this elegant, earthy greenery theme. Perfect for autumn/winter (although we wouldn’t tell spring brides to rule it out either!), a greenery theme can be integrated in to every part of the Big Day from invites to bouquets to the cake! Bouquets consisting of eucalyptus and simple white flowers will be a clean and fresh addition to the bride’s and bridesmaids’ looks, while garlands of greenery can be placed everywhere from archways to chair backs and even table runners for a romantic, organic feel.

Purple & Mixed Berry Palette

This fresh palette of rich hues is perfect for an autumn wedding. Purple has always been a popular colour for Irish weddings because of its regal, timeless feel but this is the year to mix up your shades and make it all the more modern. It’s fairly easy to integrate purple into wedding decor, and bridesmaid dresses take care of themselves, but take it up a notch by serving beautiful berry cocktails and topping your wedding cake with a mixture of fresh berries to really make your theme stand out.

Modern Navy Blue & Gold

A navy blue and gold palette is the ideal modern take on the formal black tie wedding. This super chic mix of colours is all at once smart and glamorous and allows couples to have some fun adding gorgeous golds to really dress it up. Perfect for a winter wedding, this sophisticated palette will really pop on your festive-feel Big Day.

Soft Neutrals

This fresh and ethereal palette of neutral tones will work for weddings at any time of the year and is so simple to integrate into decor if you have an easy hand. Keep bridemaids in greys or ‘nude’ tones and try to pare back flowers to include soft browns and off-whites. This palette is all about soft colours that flow together so resist the urge to sneak in pops of colour at all costs!

Coral & Earthy Green Summer Wedding Palette

Those lucky enough to be tying the knot this summer are probably already well on their way to having most of the formalities of the day sorted, but might still be a bit up in the air when it comes to wedding colours! For a lot of people a pretty colour scheme just comes about naturally, and sometimes a theme will influence your palette (i.e. vintage yields pastels, a festival theme will usually be quite colourful etc…) but sometimes you need a little inspiration to help you along the way with it. And it’s for that very reason that we created today’s beautifully bright coral palette. Contrary to what you might have gleaned from Pinterest however, coral is not an easy colour to pull off for a wedding. Depending on skin tones it can make your maids look washed out (try peach or pastel pink instead), and can be a little overpowering when overused in decor – that is why the trick is to ground it in shades of pink and earthy greens and let the coral pop where it is most natural. Stationery and flowers are the key here as they can carry off coral without looking too harsh, and of course accessorising with a pair of coral toned earrings or socks for the groom is always going to look cool. Check out our take on a coral palette below for more ideas!

A Modern, Minimal Wedding Palette

Modern minimalism is a massive wedding trend this year, with couples opting for a ‘less is more’ mantra and feeling all the less stressed for it! The trick to a minimalist wedding is to exercise restraint at all times during the planning – which is no mean feat with all the incredible wedding inspiration everywhere you look these days! Keeping to a neutral tone should be easy – keep bridesmaids in grey or cream, go for greenery instead of colourful flowers and bring in font as a feature wherever you can. Simple, beautiful stationery with pretty calligraphy is great for this palette, as is items like calligraphy cake toppers and a sophisticated white wedding cake. We love this look for a fresh summer wedding – just watch out for the red wine spills!

Your Gorgeous Gold & Grey Wedding Palette

It seems everybody has gone cray cray for grey grey (sorry) in every way lately, and we just can’t get enough of the sophisticated soft shade for weddings either! Grey is a fab option for Big Day decor because it can be easily paired with so many colours that are also having a ‘moment’ this season; glamorous gold, happy mustard, romantic blush and cool mint to name a few. We love the look of gold and grey for a wedding during any season and it’s quite an easy theme to stick to even if you’re not a crafty type. Soft grey wedding dresses have popped up in fine art photography shoots a lot over the last year, and are a great way to go if you want to get away from traditional off-white in a subtle way. Of course if that’s not your bag, your girls will be delighted to don gorgeous grey bridesmaid dresses with some beautiful beading to add a bit of glamour. If the gold and grey palette seems a little too minimal, add in a soft blush for more depth, with Rose Quartz as the Pantone Colour of the Year this year, you’re sure to find plenty of ways to introduce this romantic tone in to your theme.

This is an easy palette to replicate and will appeal to both brides and grooms – grey is a gorgeous, elegant colour that’s having a bit of a moment just about everywhere (interiors, fashion, weddings – you name it) while blush pink is always a popular colour choice for weddings and of course Pantone named the fabulous Rose Quartz as one of their colours of the year, so you’re sure to find plenty of pretty pink decor and accessories about.

The way to go about this palette is to use white or ivory as an accent and work in your pink and grey through your decor and accessories. Maids would look fabulous in soft blush or rose pink (check out some of our favourite pink bridesmaid gunas here) but would look equally gorgeous in a cool grey, particularly come winter time. Add hints of blush through accessories from a pop of pink in the flowers, as a tie for wedding bouquets or as a sash for your little flower girl. For the lads, grey suits look sharp and stylish (and will defo be worn again) – work in a touch of pink through the button hole, pocket square or tie (we love this adorable secret message from a bride to her pop tucked underneath)!

In terms of decor, think sophisticated grey or pretty pink fonts on your stationery and menu, add a pop of pink to the centrepieces through your flowers, rock a fabulous pink wedding cake and hang balloons and lanterns in assortment of shades to create a pretty and fun focal point. This colour palette is easy to work with and can be greyed up or given an even more feminine twist by adding more of either shade! Check out some ideas below…

Channeling the Great Gatsby: Your Art Deco Wedding Theme

Today, inspired by Phillippa’s gorgeous Gatsby style look for her Clonabreany House wedding last summer, we’re falling for everything with a bit of fringing and a flourish of faux fur as we transport ourselves back to the roaring 20s for a gorgeous Great Gatsby inspired wedding celebration! The Art Deco style of the prohibition era is the perfect theme for an all-out Big Day celebration, and guests are bound to get in on the fun when they hear all about flapper girl dresses, Champagne cocktails and all things extravagant for your Big Day!

The Style

When it comes to wedding dresses we’re looking at designers like Jenny Packham, Gwendolynne (pictured below) and Temperley Bridal for beautiful hand-beaded sheath gowns with an edge. Go for something slinky and soft, with plenty of embellishment that will allow you to dance right into the night. Of course where it all comes together is with a stunning statement headpiece, and we’re sure you’ll find something from one of the wonderful wedding accessory designers on the weddingsonline directory, that sets a fabulous tone. Bridesmaids in fully embellished dresses (full length or below the knee) with a dash of fringing are sure to carry the theme right to your bridal party, and we’ve no doubt the boys will be all on board with bowties and boater hats to accessorise a slick three-piece suit.

The Decor

For a Gatsby style wedding, the decor is all about opulence with glittery golds contrasted with elegant navy throughout your venue. What makes the decor really pop is the details – a vintage typewriter for the guestbook, a gramophone perched alongside old family photos and feathers and fairy lights as far as the eye can see! Make sure to check online for free (for personal use) 1920s style fonts to create your own Art Deco inspired stationery, and serve up some tasty prohibition era cocktails during your drinks reception (we’re liking the sound of a Sidecar or a Southside – the rumoured favourite cocktail of Al Capone and his cronies!)

The Most Fun Tropical Wedding Theme You’ve Ever Seen!

If you’re looking for something really different for your wedding theme, you may just have found it! The tropical theme is massive for weddings this year and we can definitely see some 2017 Irish brides getting in on the action next summer!

Pulling off an amazing tropical theme can be hard work, but you can also have great fun doing it. Getting things such as colourful wedding stationery sorted early will help you get focused on how you want the overall day to look and feel. We suggest checking out Appleberry Press and The Parlour Press for some amazing tropical themed wedding invitations. On the day itself, establishing a fun tropical feel is easily done with bright, eye-catching bouquets, colourful bridesmaids’ dresses and maybe even a pair of hot pink heels if one was so inclined!

Serve canapés of fresh watermelon lollipops, Mojito cocktails and fresh coconut juice (which of course you’ll have to serve with flamingo party straws, obvs). Decorate as colourfully as possible, popping tropical flowers, confetti and pineapple props around the table. You can get your hands on loads of super fun pineapple themed bits and bobs on Etsy. The only trouble will be not blowing the budget before you’ve even started! Plenty of colourful tassels and bunting is a must of course, as is giant colourful balloons and brilliant bright photo booth props for guests. And if you’re really up for a bit of fun, conga your way out of the ceremony venue after you’ve tied the knot – we’re nearly certain that’s something your guests will never forget!

Cornflower Blue & Peach – A Very Sweet Summer Wedding Palette

We may not quite be into summer weather just yet (we’ll get our week soon!) but we’re feeling all inspired by some of the gorgeous sun kissed real weddings we’ve been featuring recently! Even if sunshine can’t be guaranteed for your Big Day, we can guarantee a real summer feeling with this pretty cornflower blue and peach wedding palette.

Blue is a beautiful shade to opt for for your decor, and looks great in soft and romantic flowers. The trick to making blue warmer is to vary your shades and add a pretty peach or rose to give it some depth. For bouquets, consider blue Brunia berries, Hydrangea, blue Gentian and peach Rose – the below photos will give you an idea of the look you’re going for! Bridesmaids will look great in cornflower blue, and can add neutral accessories and maybe a splash of bronze or rose gold to finish the look. A blue palette also means adding your ‘something blue’ will be a cinch – check out these gorgeous ‘something blue’ ideas from our editor if you need some extra inspiration!

A Luscious Lavender & Pretty Purple Mix Wedding Palette

The sun’s out and we’re feeling super summery and very romantic – and if you’re not in the summer spirit just yet you definitely will be when you see today’s beautiful lavender-inspired colour palette! Purple has always been a huge trend in Irish weddings, but by mixing tones and adding some select sprigs of lavender to the palette you can make this theme really unique. We love the idea of serving a lavender Champagne cocktail as your signature drink, or you could offer guests a blackberry infused mocktail as a post-ceremony refresher. Lavender sprigs are a budget-friendly and beautiful way to add some colour to the table – pop them onto white napkins and wrap in twine with a Kraft table name tag for a rustic feel. For more ideas see our stunning palette below!
